Emma Heap, 10X Investments Head of Growth, says the disruptive asset manager’s sponsorship of The Gathering is a natural extension of the company’s continuing partnership with Daily Maverick. Previous collaborations and events, most particularly the Real Money Fight 1 and 2, have focused on exposing the truth about the retirement savings industry, which is set up to serve its own interests rather than those of its customers, most of whom are entrusting it with their life’s savings.
Heap notes that 10X Investments and the Daily Maverick hold dear many of the same values, such as truth, transparency and honesty.

The Gathering: Media Edition is an extension of Daily Maverick's highly successful political economy event The Gathering, which takes place in Johannesburg each year. The Cape Town event will highlight the potential social consequences of the deterioration in the media landscape.
Over the course of the last decade, particularly the last few turbulent years, Daily Maverick has positioned itself as a leading, uncorruptible force for the good of every South African. Its work on the Gupta Leaks and against State Capture has sometimes seen it positioned as the major force keeping politicians honest.
Daily Maverick says the aim of The Gathering: Media Edition is to highlight the importance of truth and ethics in the media, the business world and in politics. It hopes to raise awareness about the importance of freedom of speech and truth and authenticity across all communications platforms.
The company’s stated aim for the day is to inform and educate a cross-section of stakeholders in society and stimulate debate around their various roles in the fight for media freedom and integrity. Daily Maverick says it also hopes to motivate people to take action where they can since “the media affects many aspects of our life, and the public at large should not take a free and effective media for granted”.
Steven Nathan, 10X Investments chief executive officer, will join other business and political leaders at this year’s event.
