“There might be another Prieshka Taylor [we don’t think there is], but none as perfect a fit for 10X Investments as this one,” says Marc Horne, 10X’s Head of Marketing. “Her uniquely varied CV ticks every box for us.”
Horne is referring to Prieshka’s varied career, which spans asset management, the retirement industry, event management, data analysis and a lot more in the two years she ran her own consultancy.
“It is interesting that Prieshka is joining 10X just as the Same-same but different campaign is starting to build a head of steam,” said Horne. “But let’s not forget that the campaign’s payoff line talks to the fact that each of us is uniquely special.”
Another nice bit of serendipity is that Prieshka joined in Women’s Month, with a webinar for powerful women already on the calendar.
10X is hosting a panel discussion featuring women talking about breaking the chains of financial bondage, including one of the daughters of the leaders of the 1956 Women’s March, who has gone on to build a very impressive career in the financial world (including in her role as chairman of the 10X board).
Prieshka grew up in Chatsworth, in Durban, surrounded by strong women and a very supportive community. She and her two sisters (both medical doctors) were raised by their mum after their dad died when Prieshka was just 5.
While raising her three girls, Prieshka’s mother qualified as a teacher, earned a Fullbright scholarship to complete a master’s degree in the US and became the youngest female principal in her district. How is this possible, you might ask… With the help of another strong woman, Prieshka’s grandmother, who lived with the family too.
“My Grandmother was an incredible matriarch and very admired and looked upon as a community leader,” says Prieshka, who is now happily settled in Cape Town, with her husband and daughter, after stints in Johannesburg and in the UK. She still misses the kind of community spirit she grew up with, though. “We knew everyone on our street. I am still friends with my neighbours.”
Before joining 10X, Prieshka’s roles included managing director Helium Marketing, head of marketing at Evergreen Lifestyle, and various roles in marketing and event management at Coronation Fund Managers, Marketing Concepts and at Urban Chill in London.
