Am I allowed a withdrawal from my preservation fund?

Question:

Hi, i was informed i would be able to take out a portion of my preservation fund in march this year. Is this correct and if so, what percentage can be taken?

Answer:

Mireille,

In terms of current law, you are allowed one withdrawal from your preservation fund pre-retirement (earliest age 55) for each separate transfer into your preservation fund. So if you have not yet made a withdrawal, you can do so now, you don't have to wait for March. But if you are referring to the proposed amendments which will allow you to make an annual withdrawal, these have not been passed into law yet, and it is not clear if and when this will happen.
