How do I cancel my provident fund?

Question:

I am with Momentum and have a pension & provident fund. I want do cancel my provident, because I need money. How do I cancel my provident fund?

Answer:

Belinda,

If your provident fund is a provident preservation fund, then you are allowed one full or partial withdrawal before retirement (earliest age 55). However, if this is an employer-sponsored fund, and you are still an employee of that company, then you cannot access your fund unless you resign from your employer, or you retire. Also understand that is money is earmarked for your retirement, not to fund your current living expenses.
