Can a beneficiary claim a deceased member's tax return?

Question:

I just received the Metropolitan Retirement Annuity Fund-Income Tax Certificate of my late mother,so I would like to know if it is possible to claim as his son or beneficiary?.I can also provide her details if necessary!!!

Answer:

Brian, No, you cannot claim this. However, in the event that your late mother submitted a tax return for 2013/14 (or someone still needs to do so on her behalf), the any tax refund would fall into her estate.
