Can an employer deduct pension contributions without my consent?

Question:

Can an employer deducted supposed pension contributions without the employee having consented, through signing for it, say? If not, what procedure can be followed in order to recover these amounts?

Answer:

Tapiwa, If you join an employer who already offers a pension fund, and you are eligible for membership then you are also required by law to join that fund. This is a term of your employment. The contributions will be per the fund rules. Some funds rules provide for a compulsory employee contributions, other don't. You should ask to see the Special Fund Rules from your HR department, to see whether the contribution deducted is within your fund rules.
