Can I access my Old Mutual RA on grounds of unemployment?

Question:

Hi. I have a 10-yea-old Old Mutual RA. I recently got retrenched without an alternative. Can I access some of my money on the grounds of retrenchment and being unemployed? Thank you. Sindiswa Tshomela

Answer:

Sindiswa,

No, unfortunately, this is not permitted by our law - you can only access this money once you turn 55. You should get some assistance from UIF however.
