Can I claim endowment contributions for tax?

Question:

If the investment product to which I have been contributing is a "RETIREMENT OPTIMISER ENDOWMENT " am I still able to claim up to the maximum of 15% of NPTI ? For the tax years ending 2013,2014,2015 and 2016. PLEASE ADVISE . THANKS.

Answer:

Martin, If you invest in an endowment product then you cannot claim any contributions for tax, either before or after 1 March 2016. You can only claim the deduction you referenced in your question if you chose the Retirement Annuity option with your Discovery Retirement Optimiser. The concept of non-pensionable income falls away from 1 March 2016 - tax deductions are then limited to 27,5% of gross remuneration or taxable income (whichever is higher) across all types of retirement funds.
