Can I decide how much to contribute towards a retirement annuity?

Question:

Good day I am currently earning R8000 I am 36yrs old more or less how much will I be paying a month should I opt to have a retirement annuity as I do not have a pension fund at my work place

Answer:

Aretha, A retirement annuity is voluntary so you decide how much you want to save. Most administrators set minimum limits however (eg R500 pm, or, in the case of 10X Investments, R1 000 pm). Ideally, you should save 15% of your income for 40 years (that's R1 200 on R8 000); but if you started late, you should endeavour to save a bit more.
