Can I draw a monthly amount from my retirement annuity?

Question:

I have a retirement annuity of R172 000 which I would like to draw a monthly amount from. Do I have to take the full amount & invest some in a living annuity? I do draw a monthly amount from a living annuity which is a seperate investment. Thank you Maureen

Answer:

Maureen, From 1 March 2016, you are entitled to withdraw the full amount of your retirement annuity as a cash lump sum, provided the value is less than R247 500. But you can also convert this (or a part thereof) into a monthly annuity adding the capital to your existing living annuity (or taking out another annuity).
