Can I use my retirement annuity as collateral?

Hi. I have a pension fund with my employer - the governemtn. However, i have purchased a retirement annuity from a compnay (sanlam) to which i make monthly installments. the retirement annuity contributions are made now for only a few months. Can i use my retirement annuity as collateral for a home loan / investment. Whcih avaleu will be use, if this is the case. Is it the current valeu or teh value at the end of the term, .ie. when i retire.Can i cede my retirement annuity or can i basically use it as collateral. thank you

In terms of the Pension Funds Act, you are not allowed to use your retirement annuity as collateral. You may not cede your retirement annuity either.
