Do I have to retire to withdraw my Metropolitan RA?

Question:

I have just turned 55 and I went to Metropolitan to withdraw 1 third of my benefit but I was told to bring early retirement letter. Do I have to retire first?

Answer:

Thakgudi, If you plan to access your retirement annuity then you do not need to formally retire, to do so. If you intend to withdraw from your employer's pension fund, then you can only do so when you resign or retire.
