How long does to receive the funds in a cancelled retirement annuity?

Question:

How long does to receive the funds in a cancelled retirement annuity?

Answer:

Luwanda,

It can take 30 years or longer - it all depends on how old you are. With a cancelled retirement annuity, you can only get your money back now if the paid-up amount is less than R7 000. Otherwise, the money stays invested and you can only clam from age 55 onward. If the amount involved is less than R7 000, you should expect to wait at least three months with most administrators.
