How much should I contribute to my retirement annuity?

Question:

Is it wise to take out a retirement annuity in my last 10 years of employment and, if so, how much should I contribute to my retirement annuity monthly?

Answer:

Charmaine,

When it comes to retirement, saving more is always preferable to saving less, and your age is not an impediment to you taking out a retirement annuity. If you believe that your retirement savings are not adequate and/or you cannot increase the contribution at your workplace retirement fund (if you have one) then it would serve you save through a retirement annuity, provided you earn income against which you can deduct your retirement annuity contributions.
