Must I pay income tax on my broker commission?

Question:

I want to know that if I am a sales person and I am selling retirement fund such as retirement annuities, Provident and Pension funds. on my Sell am I obligated to pay tax? If yes how must I pay it, what amount is the tax going to be and at what time must I pay the tax?

Answer:

Mthunzi, These are not retirement fund related questions, these are tax questions. It is concerning that as a broker, you are so unaware of our tax laws. Yes, you must pay income tax on your broker commission. If this is not deducted at source, then you need to register as a provisional tax payer and submit your returns (and pay related tax) annually. But for more information, you should visit the SARS e-filing website.
