What will my retirement annuity payout be at retirement?

Question:

Hi, if my contribution is R300 per month, what would the retirement annuity payout be in the next 25 years.

Answer:

Jerusha, There are many variables to this question, in particular your investment return, which will depend on your asset mix, the fees you pay and future inflation. Assuming you earned a 5% real (after-inflation) return of 5% per annum, plus a 6% inflationary return, the payout would be R473 000. If we ignore the inflation, the pay-out would be R179 000 in today's money terms, before fees. if we factor in fees of 2% pa, your pay out would only be approximately R134 000 in today's money terms, after fees.
