Will I lose any benefits if I am medically boarded?

Question:

My husband turns 55 on 10/11/2013, but due to illness he will probably be medically boarded in October 2013. Will he lose any benefits?

Answer:

Salochnee,

We cannot answer this without knowing what benefits you refer to. These differ from employer to employer. But if he receives a disability benefit from November onward, this will pay out until he reaches normal retirement age. He will continue to contribute to his retirement fund through this time, and will continue to have the same risk cover as before. At retirement age, his disability income will be replaced by his retirement income.
