Are part-time employees eligible to contribute to a provident fund?

Question:

Good day, I would like to know if a part-time worker is entitled to have provident fund deducted from their salary.

Answer:

Zainub, This is governed by the fund rules, and the definition of "eligible employees". Typically, this only includes full-time employees, but under recent labour law changes, part time employees more than 3 months in service may not be prejudiced versus full-time employees (so they may become eligible after three months). This is something you should clarify with your fund administrator, with reference to your General and Special fund rules.
