Can I claim UIF from a previous employer?

Question:

I worked at Mailing Solutions for 6 months. I don't work there anymore and didn't apply for the UIF that I left. What must I do?

Answer:

Melanie,

In principle, you cannot claim UIF unless you lost your job involuntarily. You need to visit the Department of Labour UIF website and follow the prescribed steps, and see if you qualify. This FAQs service is geared to retirement-related questions.
