Can I withdraw my provident fund due to disability?

Question:

Hi, I have been put on disability by my cardiologist. Can I withdraw part or the whole of my provident fund? Please advise. Regards, Alfred

Answer:

Alfred,

If you have disability cover through your employer, you will receive this monthly income disability benefit until you reach normal retirement age per the fund rules, at which point you will be able to access your provident fund. If you have no such cover, you may be able to apply for early retirement now.
