Can I withdraw my provident fund from a previous employer?

Question:

I have worked for two security companies, namely TSS and now Venture TSS and Magnum Shield. I would like to know if I can withdraw my provident fund from these companies, because at the moment I'm working for G4S Cash Solutions.

Answer:

Tebogo,

Once you leave an employer, you are entitled to withdraw from their provident fund (provided you have not already transferred the balance to your new employer's provident fund, in which case you would have to wait until you left that employer, or you reached retirement age).
