Can I take out a loan against my provident fund?

Question:

Hi, I've been employed for about 8 years with the same company. I'd like to borrow some non-cash from my provident fund account; can I do so? If yes, how do I apply? Also, how do I get my latest benefit statement e-mailed to me?

Answer:

Mr(s) Molapisi,

You are only allowed to borrow money from your fund if this is permitted by your fund rules. Even then, the loan must be for very specific purposes, essentially housing related (to buy a home, pay off a bond, fund improvements etc). You need to check with your HR department to see whether you qualify for such a loan. You need to contact your administrator for the latest copy of your benefit statement. If this is 10X, you can also view your statement online via our member portal, or you can request a copy from your HR representative.
