How can I withdraw my provident fund online?

Question:

We have lived abroad for 14 years to date. How can my husband withdraw his provident fund online? Is this a possibility? Anticipate your soonest reply

Answer:

Lynda, He cannot withdraw online. He needs to submit the required withdrawal documents to the fund administrator. Typically he should find these forms to the administrator's web site. He can then scan and e-mail the documents through, or courier them here, if this the electronic version does not suffice. Note that the money can only be paid into a South African bank account, and the pay-out is subject to a tax directive from SARS. If he has not submitted a tax return for 14 years, he may have a problem, if SARS cannot locate his tax records. You can get the help of a financial emigration specialist to assist you with these matters.
