Question:
Hi, I would just like to find out something. The company I worked for ended our contracts with immediate effect due to the fact that there are no more jobs for us to do! I want to find out how do I claim my provident fund and how long does it take for it to paid out? Thank you for your time.
Answer:
Stefan,
To claim your provident fund, you must complete an instruction (your HR department should have this). The instruction form advises the administrator what you want done with your money. This form must be returned to the employer, who must sign it (to confirm that you are leaving the company) and then forwarded to the fund administrator.
Provided your tax affairs are in order, and you have submitted all the required documents (such as a copy of your ID, a completed instruction form stating where the money should go, and proof of banking details), it normally takes 14 to 21 business days for the funds to be paid out. Some administrators take longer. If the delay is overly long, you should follow up with the administrator to see what is holding up the process. If the administrator does not give you any joy, you should follow up with your previous HR department to ensure they follow up on this matter.
