How do I claim my provident fund from a previous employer?

Dear Madam i have this question that i have being looking answers for,i worked for a security company for about 13/14months 5years go, and i happen to lose my job,and now i want to claim for my providen fund,but i am not sure if the company still exist,so if it does not exist anymore i would like to know if how do in go on about this matter,and if they still exist i don`t if they will ever help me as i am not sure if they still remember me.PLAESE PLEASE PLEASE..............!!!help me i am despirate

Fusi, Your former employer does not control this money. You should contact them, and they can point you in the right direction. The right direction is the fund administrator who now looks after your money. Most likely, your money will no longer be in the original (employer's) provident fund but will have been transferred to an unclaimed benefits fund. If you cannot contact your former employer, you can try the provident fund administrator. Perhaps you have some documents (fund brochures/benefit statements etc.) from that time that will remind you who this is. Or perhaps a former colleague can help you with this information. If you can identify the provident fund administrator, then they may be able to tell who looks after the unclaimed benefits fund where your money has probably gone. Your last option is to request an independent financial adviser to do a "missing funds" search under your ID number.
