How do I know if I am entitled to a surplus?

Question:

Hi, I worked at Netcare for six years, resigned in 2012 and received my provident fund. I would like to know if I am entitled to a surplus. Thank you, Nicolett.

Answer:

Nicolett,

This will depend on the specific circumstances, as to when and how this surplus arose. You should not expect to share in a surplus that arose before your joined Netcare, but if it arose after 2006, then you may be entitled to a share. Your old HR department may be able to give you a more definitive answer.
