Question:
If I get retrenched, will I receive my entire retirement fund pay-out, or only for the years that I've been working? How do retirement fund pay-outs work?
Answer:
Angela,
If you are a member of a defined contribution (private sector) retirement fund, you will receive the total value of contributions (yours and your employers), net of any fees and premiums deducted off the contributions, plus the investment return on your invested contributions, net of any investment fees.
If you are a member of a defined benefit fund (eg the GEPF), your pay-out is based on a formula, which factors in the number of years you have worked.
