How I can claim my father's surplus?

Question:

i wish to know on how i can claim my father's surplus. my was working at hlobane coal mining and is closed about 1988.

Answer:

Siyabonga,

You first need to establish whether the fund had a surplus distribution, If yes, your father would have to have been alive on the surplus apportionment date, for you to claim his benefit. If the mine closed in 1998, it is highly unlikely that there are still surplus funds awaiting to be apportioned.
