How long does it take for a death benefit to pay out?

My uncle died in June 2013 and I submitted all the required documents such as copy of ID and proof of banking details, but I received an SMS stating that a benefit statement had been delivered to his employer in January 2014. How long does it take for a death benefit to pay out?

It can take up to 12 months to process a death benefit, as the Trustees must ensure that all financial dependants are provided for.
