What is the first step in collecting my provident fund?

Question:

How can I collect my provident fund? I have worked for several factories and haven't collect any funds. What is the first step in collecting my provident fund?

Answer:

Zinhle,

You should attend to this every time you leave an employer. You must then fill in an instruction form that you get from your HR department, which instructs the fund manager what to do with the money (pay it out or transfer it to another fund). If this is not done, your money will eventually transferred to an unclaimed benefits fund.

So you need to retrace your steps, contact all your past employers, find out who administers their retirement fund, then contact these administrators and find out where your money is (with them or in an unclaimed benefits fund), if necessary, contact the unclaimed benefits fund and follow the process required to access your money (ie provide the relevant forms and supporting documentation that will enable them to pay you out).
