Will I get my full provident fund in cash upon emigration?

Question:

Hi, I have resigned from my current job and will be emigrating to Australia in September. If I withdraw my money from my provident fund today, will I get the full amount in cash or will the amount be taxed upon withdrawal?

Answer:

Marco, You will get the full amount as a cash lump sum, but net of cash lump sum tax (the first R25 000 is not taxed, the balance to R660 000 at 18%, the balance to R990 000 at 27%, and the remainder at 36%).
